The number of circulars scut out on the Melbourne Cup consultation is as follows : —"Western Australia, 5050; Queensland 11,125; New South Wales, 34,275 ; Victoria, 43,075 : South Australia, 18,750 ; Tasmania, 6050; New Zealand, 25,600; Broken Hill, 3675 ; Eugland 17,800 ; Africa, 2525 ; China, Japan atd the Straits Settlements 10,000. The cost of posting alone was £'700. The only Carbine colt in New Zealand. Phaeton writes in the Auckland "Weekly News : — Major George's stud at Wapiti, on Tuesday received a valuable addition, the Grandmaster marc Hestia | (dam of Quickfire) producing a tine colt to Carbine. The little fellow is similarly marked with blazed face and white hind fetlock like his celebrated sire. The latest addition to our list of thoroughbreds, it may be remarked, is the only Carbine colt in New Zealand. We (Mercury) understand that Mr T. T. Watt has purchased Rossall, the price for the cross-country horse gelding, it is stated, £50.
