At the opening day of the Marton J.C. Meeting the weather was fine, but the attendance was not large. The fields were large and the sport generally interesting. Two accidents occurred during the day, W. Rettor sustaining a broken arm tbrough Tangaroa falling in the hurdles, and G. Hope receiving a kick in the groin from Glengarry in the saddling paddock. Results : — Hunt Club Cvp — Seddon 1, Repo % Awarua 3. Won easily all the way. Dividend, £3 3s. Maiden Plate-— Ebor 11. 1, Streamlet 2, Teuku 3. Won very easily. Dividend, £1 18s. Handicap Hurdles— Red Hot 1, Entry 2. W T on easily. Dividend, £2 3s. Trial Steeplechase — Rossal 1, Goodwood 2, Purena 3 Won comfortably. Dividend, £47 14s. Upper Tutaenui Stakes— Ebor 11. 1, Dante 2, Trickery 3. Won easily. Dividend, £1 13s.
