Proposed Church Union.
(Per Press Association.) London, Sept. 5. The Arcbbisbop of Canterbury lias issued a pastoral letter in reply to the Pope's appeal for the re- union of the Anglican and Roman Cburches. He recognises tbe sincerity of tbe proposal, but urges that a so-called re-union without recognition would not only be our farewell to other churches but we should be called on to forget our own Church. Dr Benson calls on cburchmen to preserve the faith and practices of tbeir own Primitive Catholic Church. Roman modes and rewards of worship are repugnant to Teutonic Christendom.
