The Vacant Judgeship.
[Per Press Association.] Wellington, Sept. 5. The Law Society has passed the fol- , lowing resolutions: — (1) That in the opinion of this council it is impossible that tbe work of this judicial district can be done by less than two judges ; (2) That the arrears of judicial work are 1 rapidly increasing, and until the existing vacancy upon the Supreme Court Bench is filled up such arrears must necessarily daily increase ; (3) That this council respectfully represents to the Hon. the Premier the necessity of speedily filling up the vacany. In forwarding the letter to Mr Seddon, Mr Hislop, President, mentions the only reason the Society had not brought the matter under notice before was that they considered Government should have ample time, ■without beiDg annoyed by any application, to make their decision on so important a question.
