Freetrade Triumphant.

(Per Press Association.) Melbourne, September 1 At the annual meeting of the Freetrade Association the speakers were jubilant at the result of the tariff reform in the direction to lower the duties, and claimed that the tide had turned ; also, that at the next election, the party would be strong enough to carry far more than a 2-5 per cent, reduction. Merchants and farmers were realising the fallacy of Protection, and were being converted to Freetrade. Many of the former had e.ther gone over to Sydney or were establishing branches there, trade being gradually driven out of the colony.
