Lands for Settlement.
The Government will shortly be putting a quantity of land in the market in the Hawke's Bay and Taranaki districts. The Waikopiro Block, of 10,350 acres, divided into 52 sections averaging from 35 to 400 acres each, will be offered for selection on October 16th. This block is a portion of the land recently purchased from Natives in the Hawke's Day district. It lies to the east of Ormondville on the Napier-Wanganui railway, the nearest section being two and a half miles from the railway. Three thousand acres of the laud is covered with light scrub, aud the country generally is undulating and broken and of limestone formation. A 16ft road has been formed across the Gorge at the Manawatu river and a road line has been felled and cleared to a village settlement site called Whatukura. The village sections are to be disposed of under the lease in perpetuity system ; the other sections in the block under the optional system. On October 9th, the great Ngaire Block in the Taranaki district will be disposed of under the optional system. This block of land lies between the wellknown Manganiiagi Block and the settled land near Eltham, and one and a quarter miles from the township of that name. The laud in this block is exceptionally good and rich.
