Police Court. THIS DAY.

[Before H. L. Shorwill and C. Bull,Esqs., J.P's.J Harry Belin, laborer, of Coal Cr -nk, was charged on tho information of Vun stable Tnohy, that about tho licur of omp o'clock in trie nij^ht of Aujr.wt, !(j. IHOS, at Cheltenham, hs did fc! mh: ii-!y mid burglariously break and ei.\ c .he dwel ling-house of one Thomas llyun, and feloniously and burglariously steal and carry away two bottles of brandy, three bottles of whiskey, one pound five shillings in money., two or three flasks of whiskey, about fifty cigars, and three or four packets of cigarettes, the chattels and money of the said Thomas Ryan. Constable Tnohy conducted the case for the prosecution, and accused was undefended by counsel. Thomas llyun deposed : Was an hotelkeeper at Cheltenham ; knew accused for about six weeks; accused had stayed at witness' hotel ; remembered August 1(5 ; did not see accused on that day or night ; went to bed about eleven o'clock; heard a 9l ; ght noise during the night, but did not get np to see what it was ; next morning he found the house had been entered by the kitchen window, which had evidently been opened with the asof an axe; lie could not s\v?ar to the exact number of bodies of whiskey or brandy be missed, but five in all were taken ; also, missed two or three flasks of whiskoy or brandy, two bundles of cigars and two or three packets of cigarettes, and about 25s ii silver ; could not identify the bottle of brandy or empty bottle produced, but kept bottles with similar brands, nor could he identify the money produced. To ihe accused : "While he (the prisoner) *vas stopping at the hotel witness missed a pound in silver from the till. A. Hamilton deposed : Met accused about 7 o'clock on the morning of the i7th in Fergnsson street ; next saw accused in the hotel, when he gave witness a taste of whiskey from a flask, and two Swiss cigars ; between ten and eleven o'clock the same morning accused went to witness' shop ; the bag accused carried was similar to the ono prortncoil ; nccu?t:d had a bottle of three star brandy and a bottle of whiskey in his pnssfssion ; accused said be was taking the liquor to the men on the contract. To the prisoner : Accused was uot carrying the bag the i\v?l time witness saw him in the morning. (Left, sitting.)
