The Kucheng Outrages.

The Chinese Government has appointed a Commissioner to enquire into the outbreak at Kucheng, and the massacres which have occurred there. The officer chosen for the task, however, is the degraded Viceroy Lin, himself regarded as the originator of the riots at Chengtu, in Szechuen, in June last, when the mission stations there were destroyed. Great Britain and America will probably make a joint protest against the 1 appointment of Lin to enquire into the Kucheng outrages, on the ground of his connection with the Chengtu riots in June* ______________
