LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

[Per Press Association.] Wellington, August 22. The Council met at 2.30. The Hon. Mr Pharazyn moved a motion for a return showing the total losses sustained by the Bank of New Zealand through advances to, and other transactions with, the Directors and members of the various Governments from its commencement up to the present fcitrie. Hon. Reynolds moved an amendment so as to include legal advisers and servants of the bank in tho investigation. He remarked that there had been great criminality displayed in the mauagemeut of the Bank. The amendment was lost by 25 to 5, also was the motion by 22 to 9. A somewhat simiiar niotiou by the Hon. Macgregor was withdrawn. Tho Threshing Machine Owners' Lien Bill passed the final stages. The Council then adjourned.
