Serious Collision Between Two Steamers.

MARVELLOUS ESCAPE OF PASSENGERS AND CREW. (Per Press Association.) London, August 21. The steamer Seaford, plying between Dieppe and New Haven, came into collision during a fog with the steamer Lyon, when twenty-five miles from the coast. The Seaford was damaged abaft the engines, and sank stern first in 40 minutes. The passengers (numbering 255) and crew (42) were rescued in boats, some of tbem only getting off when the port holes were under water. The Lyon came alongside immediately and assisted a few people who were hurt in the rush to escape.
