A FRIENDLY OPINION.

The position of the Bank of New i Now Zealand, and of the New Zealand Estates Company, with their relationship to tho Government, has been I con; men ted on by tho financial editor lof the Melbourne Argus, and the opinion expressed by that gentleman is entitled to be received with respect. He says "The danger to the Bank from the liquidation of the Estates Company cannot be avoided unless tbe (Government take over the Estates Company absolutely and liquidate it at the cost of the colony. Tbe liability of the shareholders of the Bank, so far as the Estates Company is concerned, will also have to be extinguished, possibly on the condifion that they subscribe fresh capital and renovate the Bank." Under the existing circumstances of the c.a.sG we think thab this opinion. Js Hot on)y good but could GTfsily'be carried into practical effect. „__„
