Fire at Hokowhitu.
ARREST OF THE OCCUPIER OF THE PREMISES. About 9 o'clock on Saturday nigh Geor«e, Charles and Arthur Shailer, son of the photographer of that name, notice* fluiAies coming from the interior of a four roomed cottage situated at Hokowhitu and immediately informed their father who lives near by, of the fact. Whet Mr Shailer arrived he burst in the fron door and eventually extinguished tin flames, but not before a good deal of dam was done to the premises. The place pre sented the appearance ot having been \vilfuly set on fire, Mr Shailer informed bergeanfc Slattery of the occurrence, who, or arriving at the house discovered a lot ol tow saturated with kerosene on the dresser and other places. The building was insured for JUSO in the London aud Liverpool office, and the furniture for £50 in the North German. On Sunday the owner and occupier of the house, James Moody Ponton, a painter by trade, was arrested by the police on the charge oi ar«on.
