Prospects of Gold near Wellington.
(PEE PEKSH ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, This Day. Four applications have been received by the City Council for mining leases on the Karori Reservoir reserve, just outside the town. One prospect is said to have given over two oz. to the ton. JVlanylyears ago a fair quantity of alluvial gold was found in the creek at Baker's Hill, and the existence of a reef was suspected, but it was never found. The prospectors, y;ho have been at work some time think they have hit upon the reef. The Council has instructed the Engineer to report how the reservoir is likely to be effected before granting the leases.
