* A HEARTLESS JOKE. SUCCESSFUL SHIPMENT OF FRUIT. FATAL GUN ACCIDENT. (For Press Association.) Melbourne, August 1. Mrs Henry Taylor, wife of wellknown miner, received a bogus message stating her son was drowned in a water hole. The report caused the lady to swoon and go into convulsions, and she is now in a precarious coudition. S. Giblett, of Trafalgar, Victoria, made an average of 8s 8d per case on a shipment of Northern Spy apples sent to London, netting 6s 6d per caso, as against Is 3d per case value in Melbourne at the time the apples were sent Home. • The hack country of New South Wales is in a deplorable condition owing to! draught, while dingoes have caused havoc amongst the lambs. While talking to his brother Geo. Taples, former was holding a gun loaded upright when the gun went off, entered his chin, passed through the head and brain and he was killed instantaneously.
