Volunteer Items.
1 The Manchester Rifles paraded last 3 nigbt in the Volunteer Hall for inspec--5 tion by JL.ieut.-Col. Newall. There was ' a comparatively small muster, only 34 r being present of all ranks. Capt. Kirton ' was in command. After the inspection, ' Col. Newall exercised tbe corps in tbe " new physical drill. Color-Sergt. Milson, > Sergts. Petherick and Aitken, and Corpl. ' Evans drilled the corps in various move- ' ments. After the parade several new f recruits were elected, 1 Captain Kirton road a letter from Mrs Feilding, wife of tbe late General Feilding, thanking the officers, non-commis-sioned officers and men of the corps for the sympathy tbey had shown her in ber . bereavement, and granting permission for the corps to bear the arms of thelate General on their flag. Lient.-Col. Newall congratulated the corps on tbe fact of i tbeir having deserved the approbation i of so distinguished a soldier as General . Feilding, and trusted officers and men alike would strive to tbe utmost to maintain their reputation.
