Pohangina State School Concert.
On Friday evening a concert and dance was given in the Public Hall, Pohangina, under the auspices of the Pohangina School Committee, with the I object of raising funds to improve the i school ground. There was a large atr tendance, and the Hall was beautifully . decorated with evergreens. The evening's amusement was opened by a pianoi forte duet ' The Shepherd's Evening r Song,' by Mesdames Welsh and Griffith, i Then followed a short speech from Mr Bolton, the chairman of the School Committee, explaining the objects in view. The next item was the Grand March Quadrille. The remaining vocal part of the programme was made up as follows : — Song, ' When the Dew Drops Kiss the , Daisies,' by Mrs Welsh; sons*, 'Meet Me down the Lane,' Mr R. Sinclair, en. core ' The Chinaman ' ; company song, ■ Where the Rippling Waters Flow,' Mesi dames Welsh, Griffith, Thornton, and Messrs G. S. Clapham, R. Sinclair, and A. Fraser ; song, ' Alice, Where Art Thou,' Mrs Griffith; songs, « Killaloo ' and ' Annie Laurie,' Mr Pearce ; song, 1 We'd Better Bide a Wee,' Mrs Culling ; song, ' Save my Mother's Picture from the Sale,' Mr Goldfinch; song, 'Twelve Months Ago To-night,' Mr G. S. Clap, ham ; song, • The Little Drummer," Mr Robinson ; songs, * The Arab's Farewell to his Steed ' and « The Nice Old Maid,' Mr A. Fraser ; song, - The Miner's Dream of Home,' Mr Irwin ; song, ' Grace Darling,' Mr J. Sinclair. The dance programme included 22 dances, but tbis was not sufficient for the votaries of this art, some six or seven more being indulged in. The head-teacher desires to specially thank the proprietors of the Feildinc} Star, Manawatu Times, Advocate, and Standard, for their help. The proceeds will total up to between £8 and £9.
