Annual Report of Government Insurance.

The annual report of the Government Life insurance Department, laid on the table of the House, shows that during the past year 4,449 proposals for £995, 159 of insurance were received, of which 457 were declined. The total revenue showed an increase of £7,794, and £23, 117 was paid for new premiums. Death claims have been paid on 278 policies representing £88,682, and since the establishment of the situation over a milion of money has been paid under this head. A pleasing feature in the business of the department, the report states, is the increase in the demand for endowment securities. Tins increased desire on the part of the public to make prov« isions for old age cannot but be regarded as satisfactory, especially as the majority of these endowments mature at ad* vanced ages.
