Brighter Trade Prospects.

» (Per Press Association). Sydney, July 31. At the annual meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, the Chairman said there was every prospect of improved times. The volume of trade was steadily increasing, and capitalists were showing more confidence. He made congratulatory references to the advances in the prices of wool and wheat, which he said were apparently permanent, and he thought that there were bright prospects before the meat export trade. After some discussion a paragraph in the report to the effect that, in view of the extreme Freetrade proposals of the Government, the Chamber had modified its views on Freetrade was struck out. The majority of members held that after fighting for Freetrade so long it would be impolitic to turn back just when they were about to secure perfect Freetrade.
