[Per Press Association.] Wellington, July 31. The amount of Customs duty received yesterday was L 5950, the chief clearance being in tobacco, bottled beer, and spirits. The Court of Appeal has been adjourned to August 17th. The eight-roomed residence of James Kearney, farmer, Lower Hutt, was destroyed by fire to-day. The house and furnituro were insured for L4OO in the London and Lancashire, North British and Mercantile offices. About LI2 worth of furniture was saved. The origin was a defective chimney. Auckland, July 31. Chas. Gilraore was fined at the Police Court by Mr R. S. Bush, S.M., ±30 and .£1 14s costs for executing the transfer ot certain shares, to wit shares in the Kapai Vermont Gold Mining Company, in which transfer of the name ot the purchaser of the said shares was not written in with ink at the time of execution thereof. Reefton, July 31. The Globe shareholders have accepted Mr Zirnan's proposals for the purchase of the mine within six months, at L 24, 000— equal to 13s 4d per share, As to the Progress Company, Mr Ziman is to have the right to purchase within §ix months at L 24.000.
