The Stock Market.
Messrs Nolan, Tonks, and Co'a report on their stock sale : — Our usual sale was held at Opunake on 23rd inst. There was a good entry, but not keen competition, consequently some of the pens were returned unsold. . At Manaia, on 25th instant, some of the stock advertised did not come forward, but most lines changed hands before leavthe yards- We quote— Yearlings, 31s to 35s ; weaners, 20s to 275 ; 2yr steers, £3 to JE3 11s ; dairy cows, £5 to £7 17s 6d ; springers, .£4 to £4 15s ; forward cows, £3 12a 6d ; store cows, £2 63 to £2 10s ; cows and calves, £2 16s to £3 3s ; forward bullocks, £5 10. Sheep— 2 and 4 tooth wethers, 7s 9d ; cull lambs, 2s. Gd. F. R. Jackson and Co.'s Johnsonville stock report : - Our yards were well filled with fat cattle and sheep. The former, being of inferior to medium quality, with a few pens of prime sheep, were well competed for sold at last sale's rates. Figs were fairly well represented, selling equal to former rates. Cattle— Fat bullocks, £8 to ; others, £7 to £7 17s 6d ; small cattle, £6 5s to £6 15s; cows, £4 2s 6d to £6 15s. We quote— Ox beef 19s and cow beef 16s per lOOlbs. Sheep — Wethers, 11s to 12s 6d ; ewes, 8s to 10s sd. Pigs— Baconers, 22s to 35a ; porkers 16s to 20s ; stores, 10a 6d to 13s 6d ; small nigs. 5s to 7s. At the stock market at Christchurch last week a line of six crossbred fat wethers realised 18s 3d per head. These were, of course, a special line, but 150 half-bred wethers made from 16s to 17s 3d.
