«. [Per Press Association.' Wanganui, July 28, About 10.40 on Saturday night a fiveroornecl bouse in Upper Wilson-street was burned to the ground. The house which is ou the Industrial School estate is leased by Mr Hogg, carpenter. Only a sewing machine and a few small articles were saved. The house was insured for J-'IOO in the London and Lancashire and the furniture for £100 in the Phoenix. Auckland, July 26. A conference, at which 22 local bodies were represented, was held to-day at the Municipal Buildings, the Mayor presiding, to consider the inspection of dairies and the appointment of an inspector. A committee was appointed co consider regulations. Wellington, July 27. The Governor, accompanied by the Countess of Glasgow, opened the annual exhibition in connection with the Academy of fine arts this afternoon in the presence of a large number of ladies and gentlemen. This Day. The Tainni, from London, via way ports, arrived in harbour at 9.80 this morning. Chmstchuroh, July 28. Five men, who had been employed on the relief works in the city, were brought up at the Magistrate's Court and charged with drunkenness. They were fined in various sums.
