A Cowardly Assault.

O (Per Press Association). Wellington. July 28. A young man named Thomas McCluskie was admitted to the hospital about midnight suffering from serious injuries alleged to have been inflicted by a man named Henry Rigg, who has been taken into custody. The men had a quarrel and Rigg being worsted took up some road metal with which he felled McCluslde and when on the ground a further assault was committed. McClnskie's condition is so serious to day that it would not premit of his deposition being taken.
