Farming Notes.
AUCTIONEERS' COMMISSION. By " Agricola." Considerable discussion is now being earned on in the Press and amongst; farmers in connection with the rise in the charges of commission by the auctioneers for the sale of stock. It is rather unfortunate on th 9 part of the auctioneers that they should have deemed it necessary at the present juncture, when the price of stock is so low, to raise the charge of commission. If they had left the matter until such time as there was a rise in the price of stock the farmers would not have felt so sore on the subject. No doubt the auctioneers have lost by their sales lately as I' have been informed by one of them ; bub who has not lost money lately ? 1 have held conversations with a number of farmers and they have all expressed themselves aa having lost considerably by their stock during the last two years. ; It has been advocated to hold regular market days in the various counties ! from time to time and so doing away with the auction sales. This is the usual mode of disposing of stock in the Old Countryj'iibut *I presume we are ahead of the Mother Country and wish to keep advancing. A number of settlers have had to acknowledge the benefits derived from buying stock at auction sales. The auctioneers having made financial arrangements with the banks, have been in a position to sell the stock on terms, thus enabling many a struggling settler to stock his place, whereas if he waited until he got the money his grass would have been wasted. This matter should be taken into consideration by such who hare been benefited thereby. Wa are apt to be forgetful sometimes. However, I think if the auctioneers will reconsider the matter they will allow the commission to stand as before. Things are beginning to brighten up again and they will soon recoup themselves for thiir losses.
