IRISH TEXT BOOK IN SCHOOLS.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sik, — A canvass of tho Borough is about to be made for the purpose of obtaining signatures to the following petition : — • "To the Honourable the Speaker ani Members of the House of Representatives in Parliament assembled, the humble petition of the undersigned humbly sheweth : — 1. That it is desirable that the Education Act be so amended as to provide for religious instruction in schools. 2. That the instruction be given by the teachers. 3 That the text book be the Irish National School Book of Scripture Lessons. 4. That there be a conscience clause for both teachers and children. 5. That a Bill to give effect to the above proposals will be introduced in to Parliament this session, aud your Petitioners humbly request that your Honorable House will take the same in'o your consideration, and pass the Bill in such form as your Honorable House shall see fit, so as to estabish a system of religious instruction in the public schools of the colony. And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray." We would ask you to publish this as a means of assisting us in the canvass we are about to make. We are, etc., Allan S. Innes Jones, Vicar. H.
