FURTHER PARTICULARS.
(Per Press Association.) Sydney, July 23. The fire in Block 11 Mine is still unabated, though witer has been poured in all day long from all available source?, at the rate of 1000 gallons per hour. Smoke is issuing from several new crevices, showing that there has been considerable spread- The smelting and chlorodising works have been stopped in order to give more water, and several hundred more men are thus thrown out of work. During the afternoon several heavy shots were fired, and between 3000 and 4000 tons of earth were displaced. This, however, has had little effect, and id is evident that much more will bo needed if the plan is to be of any use. The enginehouse and winding plan now stand on the edge of the cliff, and will be sacrificed if more powder is used. Adelaide, July 13. The directors and superintendent of the Fire Brigade have arrived, and have decided to pump carbonic acid gas, which is generated in the chlorodising work?, into the mine and a start will bo made to night. The Melbourne directors and heads of the Fire Brigade arrive in the morning with a large supply of chemicals. Melbourne, This Day. The Proprietary Company has bought np the whole manufactured supply of carbonic antihydride, and will try to stop the fire. By this means the fire in Cornstock mine in Nevada in 1569 was thus extinguished.
