In Bankruptcy.
A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Edward Lawrence, of Waituna, was held at the Feilding Court House yesterday afternoon. Those present were the L\O.A , Mr G. J. Scutt, the debtor with his solicitor (Mr W. A. Sandilands) and Mr W. S. White. The debtor, in his sworn statement, attributed his bankruptcy mainly to the lengthy illness of his wife, who contracted an attack of inflammation and fever while living in a tent at Waituna, three years ago. He had then to give up his situation with Mr Crabb and went to reside at Halcombe, only obtaining occasional employment, hia earnings going towards living and medical expenses. Last spring he rented a piece of land to crop with potatoes, but it proved a failure and he lost £25, with the estimated profit of £100. H Tompkins, Fowlers, L 4 10s ; A. Bel', Halcombe, L 8 10s ; W. S. White, Halcombe, Ll ; D. Curtees, Halcombo, L3 ; J. Purkiss, Halcombe, 10s ; D. Gill, Halcombe, 10a ; A. Williamson, Halcombe, 12s 6d ; J. Taylor, Makino, L4 ; total, Ll6B 15s 6d. Assets — One horse, L3 ; one dog, L 3 ; saddle and bridle, L 2 10s ; household effects, L 2 ; total assets, Ll 3 10s. Deficiency, L 155 5s 6d. The Official Assignee examined debtor as to hia present position, and it appears he is now working for Hammond Bros, for 38s 6d per week. He had no offer to make to his creditors.
