148 PEOPLE DROWNED.

As the result of a collision between two Italian steamers in the Gulf of Spezzia, 148 people were drowned.

The steamers were the Ortigua and Maria, and the accident happened at the enfracce to the Gulf. The Maria sank instantly, and 148 passengers out of 178 were drowned.
