The Feilding Star. Oroua & Kiwitea Counties Gazette. Published Daily. MONDAY. JULY 22, 1895. DUNEDIN POLITICIANS.
We learn from our Dunedin exchanges that preparations are already being made in certain quarters for the next general elections, and if present intentions hold good there is a probability of numerous candidates for the City and Suburban seats. It is said that some new blood is likely to be put forward by the labor organisations, and quite a dozen names are freely mentioned. It is also reported that strong efforts will be made to prevail on some leading citizens tp allow themselves to be nominated. Assuming this to be correct, and we have no reason to doubt the truth of the statement, it indicates that a feeling of dissatisfaction with the sitting members who represent that part of the colony, already exists, and the desire for a change is making itself manifest. It naturally follows that the present Government is losing favor there and candidates who are antagonistic to i!s policy, are likely to find favor in the eyes of the electors unless there is an unexpected revulsion of feeling— a very unlikely contingency. It is expected that Mr Scofcie Mackenzie will be age in to the fore, as the leader of a powerful following in an Oiago country electorate.
