Deputation to the Premier.
-• — (Per i J ress Association). Wellington, July 16. Replying to the deputation of Knights of Labor, Mr Seddon went through the resolutions passed by the recent Conference seriatim. He favored the extension of the municipal franchise. Government proposed to call a conference to discuss tho frozen meat question and were favorable to a rating on Unimproved Values Bill Personally he agreed with the proposal for equal rights to both sexes as regards marriage and divorce, and also with regard to the payment for labor if the same amount of work was done, though he was not one favoring extensive employment to women. Ther9 was no likelihood of the Government taking up and working gold mines, but it was doing its best to encourage the investment of capital in that respect. Further, in consequence of the Government's action, whole coal mines were now being worked. As regards the tariff suggestions, the Government proposals would be before the House in a few days.. He was not prepared to say anything about the State Bank of Issue. Government had come to no decision re State insurance and Mr O'Regan's Referendum Bill would be before Parliament in a few days. He could not promise that Government would provide defendant's counsel in the same way as provided by the Crown Prosecutor, but in the several instances Government had provided the necessary council for accused. _^
