The Feilding Star, Oroua & Kiwitea Counties Gazette. Published Daily. SATURDAY, JULY 13, 1895. HORTICULTURAL SHOWS.
In our correspondence) column ' Horti ' writes urging that the matter of holding a Spring Show under ihe auspices of the proposed re-established Horticultural Society should be promptly considered. We quite agree that in order to make such Show an entire success the old and (possible) new members of the Society should get to work at once. Apart from the advantages which these and siciilar exhibitions have from an educational point of view as regards children, they are a positive encouragement to those horticuituralists and florists who are resident in the town and district to make stronger efforts in tho direction of helping on and industry which is beneficial to each an every person in the community. In the old days iv Feilding the Horticultural Society was a recognised and powerful institution which did in it 3 time a vast amount of good, and we hope under the exisciug favorable surroundings, to see a spirited revival. We are aware that to make the Society whait ought to be, an espeiienced and thoroughly competent secretary is needed, and we are in a position to state that in Mr T. Watson, who has expressed his willingness to undertake the arduous duties of the position, is to bo found both of these qualifications. From a bu>iues« stand point, overy cuuunercial aiid profes sioual man in tho town ought to help by " putting his shoulder to tho wheel " if only to assist in the geueral advancement of tho best interests of tiio town and district.
