«. (Per Press Association). Wellington, July 11. A Maori at Petone named Honi Rnrn te Pini, while suffering from drink, sawed an ugly wound in his throat with a blunt table knife. It is doubtful whether he will recoyer. Christchurch, July 11. The Kahu, which arrived from Chat ham Island late last night, brings news that on July Oth a man named Gibbs (storeman for Hood) committed suicide by shooting himself at Netting. The settlers have resolved to ask the Government to arrange for a more frequent mail service, and that Wellington be made the port of call.
