Sydney Sheep Sales.
(Per Press Association). Sydney, July 10. The sheep sales opened to-day with a more vigorous tone. The stud Lincoln rains belonging to Sutton (Invercargill) averaged about 9 guineas. Two catalogues were presented today, consisting entirely of New Zealand consignments. At the morning sale the proceedings were more cheerful than yesterday, but this condition only maintained during the sale of Lincoln?. The opinion of buyers, as expressed by the result of the sales so far, seems to be that Romneys and Leicesters are not in favour. There were sold : — On account of Sutton, Invercargill — 16 stud Lincol ns, ranging from 3 to 25gs and averaging 9gs ; 80 flock Lincolns, 2-Js;s each ; 5 hoggets, averaging £4 7s 4d each ; 8 Lincoln ewes, averaging £5 3s 2d. On account of New Zealand and Australian Land Co. — 50 Lincoln rams, 3gs each. F. Button, Thornbury — 2 stud Lincolns, prize takers at InvercargilJ, 40 and 20gs ; one stud ram, llgs; 30 rams, 2gs, and 30 at lfgs. Andrews, Christchurch — Lincoln rams passed in; 40 ewes, ligs. Threlkeld.Flaxton — 48 Lincolns, l|gs. Hall, Riccarton — 24 Lincoln rams, l]4s ; 22 ditto, lg. Collins, Kaikoura — Passed, but a few sold privately. Menlove, Windsor Park — 2 stud Lincolns averaging £6 Ss 2d , 10 rams, lg. N.Z. and A. Land Company — 50 Border Leicesters, 3gs. Henderson (Canterbury), Grieve (Waianawa), Lincoln School of Agriculture, Menlove, Grey (Otago), Douglas, Dun lop — Border Leicesters, passed. Walls, Southland — 35 Romney ram hoggets, 3"s ; 2 Romney ewes, prize-takers at the late show, 10 and sgs respectively. Gobb, Palmerston North— ls Romney rams averaged £1 10s Id. Grey Bros. (Wairarapa) and Bidwell's (Pahiatua) passed. Todd, Canterbury— 3 Romney rams averaged £1 6s 7d. McKenzie, Wairarapa — 5 Romney ratns, lg. Grey (Otago)— 10 Romney lamb rams, lg. Threlkeld's Leicesters passed. Menlove — 9 English Leicesters, lg ; Scales and Mowbray, Wellington, one Southdown, 2gs. Afternoon dialogue. — Cobb, 15 Romney ram hoggets averaged 2gs. McHardy, Hawkes Bay, 1 Lincoln ram 6|gs, 4 rams 2£gs. Harding, Hawkes Bay — 48 Romney rams averaged 11s Bd. Wallace, Auckland, 16 Lincoln rams 2gs, 11 at ljgs, and 18 lambs at 15s 9d\ Carswell's (Invercargill) Leicesters were passed. To-uaorrow's catalogue will contain a large assortment of Victorian, Tasuaanian, and New Zealand long-wools. July 10. A meeting of pastoralists condemned the action of New Zealand in imposing quarantine on stock from this side.
