N.S.W. Politics.
PREPARING FOR THE ELECTIONS. (Per Press Association.) Sydney, This Day. Sit H. Parkes has declined to stand for St. Leonards, and has not yet decided which seat he will contest. A meeting called by the Federation Party was a boisterous one. The Freetraders have decided not to interfere with the election of those Labor members of the last parliament who supported the Government. Sir Chas. Lilley, in a private letter, states the N.S.W. Legislative Council is doing great service for Australia by providing for its speedy extinction, and adds : " I wish I had to lead the onslaught of the people on this miserable House of Ancients," Mr Reid, he considers, has a fine chance for distinction and rendering substantial benefit to the Democratic cause. Sir Charles asks : " Will he be equal to the opportunity ?" and concludes : " • The Lords must go,' would be on my banners. There snou|d be no compromise, only extinction."
