The Stock Market.

Messrs Gorton and Son held their monthly stock sale at Feilding yesterday afternoon, when the attendance of settlers and others was considerably larger than usual, they being attracted, no doubt, by the reported improvement in prices of stock. The entries of sheep were large and the majority sold at a slight advance of recent quotations, especially in good lambs which realised 5s 6d, 5s 7d, 5s 9d and up to 6s for a good line, the lowest price being 4s 3d. The entries of cattle were only moderate, and most were quitted under the hammer. Mr D. Dunbar's section of 137 acres, at the junction of Zig Zag and Valley roads, was sold under die hammer to Mr J. G. Poulson, of Ashursfc, for £6 17s 6d per acre. Messrs Abraham and Williams report : The wet weather prevailing on Wednesday prevented the bulk of the entries coming forward to Pohangina, so that a limited amount of business was done. We had a substantial entry of sheep in at Palmerston on Thursday. The class generally was good. For lambs there was an unsatisfied demand, prices therefore advanced, sales closed firm at quotations. Choice breeding ewes commanded better attention. Other sheep without quotable change. Cattle came forward in limited numbers, bidding was rather weak though we succeeded in placing all but one line. Sheep — 2-tooth wethers in low condition 6s ; forward wethers, 8s 7d ; choice Romuey lambs, 6s 6d ; sound ewe lambs, 5s 7d ; others, 3s 9d to 5s 4d ; woolly lambs, 6s ; fat ewes, 6s to 6s 6d ; 2 and 4-tooth ewes, 7s 7d ; 4-tooth to f.m. ewes, 7s 6d ; empty ewes, 5s 6d ; culls, 3s to 4s. Cattle— Fat cows, £5 2s to £5 4s ; store cows, 38s to 435 ; 18-mons. steers, 445 ; weaners, 18s ; scrubby do. 6s to 8s ; milch cows, 4J3 9s to £5 4s 6d.
