TRADE WITH INDIA. I

The report of the Commission appointad by the Victoriau Government to visit the leading ports in India and the East with a view to the extension of trade in Victorian products is well worthy of the attention of the produc ing portion of the population of New Zealand, aud should come under the consideration of our Parliament during the present session with the view of taking similar action to extend our j trade. The Victorian Commission consisted of two gentlemen, who left Melbourne on 13th January, 1894, taking with them 121 samples of Victorian products, both raw and manufactured. The immediate aud beneficial results which has followed on the action of the Victorian " travellers " is clearly shown by the following statement of the exports from Victoria to the countries visited during the ten months ending October 30th, 1894, as compared with the exports during the twelve months ending 30th December,

Sauces CSdzqts Fruits, fresh ... loObhls 617 bhls Eucalyptus oil ... 17 pkgs 24pkgs This return shows mo-it clearly that the trade between the Australian colonies aud the enormous populations of India and the East is capable of rapid and almost unlimited expansion, and if the New Zealandera desire to share in the profits of that trade their pro ducers should inform themselves as to the exact requirements of the Eastern markets, and make their products in such form as will meet thoso requirements, and urge our Government to pave the way for their sale by sending advance agents as the Victorian Government has done with buch marked success.
