ADVANCES TO SETTLERS.
With reference to the rejection by the Advances to Settlers Board of laud securities known as " occupation with right of purchase licenses " on the ground that the Registrars of Deeds would not register such Mortgages under the Land Transfer Act, Mr Piraui, M.H.R., took prompt action, and asked the Government whether legislation would be introduced to remedy the defect. On
Thursday last the Minister of Lands replied : " I find that, though the District Land Registrars throughout the colony hold different opinions on the question whether the licenses can be registered or not, the omission of the word " license " in the second paragraph of section 86 of the Land Act seems to have alarmed the Dis trict Land Registrars, who in some districts will not register such occupation licenses. It is proposed to provide by legislation during the next session that the present difficulty may be removed, in order that such leases may be registered." Mr Pirani by his conduct in this matter has certainly earned the gratitude of the settlers interested.
