Fire at Blenheim.
(Per Press Association.) Blenheim, June 24. Shortly after seyen this evening a fire broke out in the boarding house premises occupied by Mrs Wilson, and owned by the Government Life Insurance. The exertions of the brigade confined the fire to the building. The Criterion Hotel, next door had a narrow escape. It was several times on fire and much damage was done by the water to the furniture, etc. The fire originated through the explosion of a lamp. The Criterion sample room was deluged with water. Owing to the rapidity with which the fire spread, nothing was got out. The Government building was insured in the Phcenix for £700, and re-insured for I*2oo in the South British. It is estimated the damage to the Criterion furniture and stock will be £300. The building was considerably damaged.
