VERDICT OF GUILTY. THE WOM4N SENTENCED TO DEATH. [Per Press Association.! Invercaegill, June 21. The jury found a verdict of guilty against Mrs Dean, and the Judge passed a sentence of death. The woman received the sentence with perfect composure. Later. When Justice Williams pronounced the sentence of death accused was outwardly quite unmoved, and in reply to the usual question whether she had anything to say spoke clearly and firmly, her answer being " No : except to thank Detective McGrath for his kindness to me." It is over 16 years since Justice Williams pronounced the sentence of death in Inver cargill on Walsh, the WaiKawa wife murderer, whose execution was the only one in the district of Southland. About 22 children have been traced to Mrs Dean's keeping and not more than half are yet accounted for.
