LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, June 21. The Council met at 2.30. The Speaker announced that the Governor had given the Hon. Oliver twelve month's leave of absence. ' Hon. Baillie was appointed Chairman of Committees. Hon. Mr McCullough, in moving the Address-in-Reply, remarked that the Governor's speech was not one of mere words, but was well digested and showed the Government had nothing to conceal. The finances were in a sound condition, and he deplored the action of many colonial editors who had defiled their own nests and decried the credit of the colony for party purposes. The Hons. W. C. Walker, Pharazyn, Dr Grace, and Jennings also spoke. The motion for the Address-in-Reply was agreed to on the voices, and the Council adjourned till Tuesday.
