Remarkable Matrimonial Case.

A remarkable matrimonial case has just been concluded in Sydney. Sarah Lines sued John Walsh, at present confined in Darlinghurst gaol under sentence for bigamy, for the recovery of £1000 damages for assault. In March, 1893, the plaintiff was married to the defendant, believing bim to be a single man, and immediately after he began to treat her in a most inhuman manner, on several occasions striking her with a horsewhip. She put up with this treatment, believing him to be her husband, but subsequently found he had been previously married to a woman then living, when sbe brought a divorce suit against defendant and applied for alimony. She was met by the defendant's confession of bigamy. Sbe now sought redress for the wrongs inflicted upon her by defendant. The jury returned a verdict for the plaintiff for £600 damages.
