At the Magistrate's Court to-day Jacob London, a bankrupt, and lately a storekeeper at Kurow, was committed for trial on two charges -one of not keeping proper books and the other for incurring a debt that he had no reasonable expectation of being able to pay. Christchurch, June 12. The New Zealand Shipping Company's R.M.S. Eimutaka left for London via Monte Video to-day. She took a full cargo of produce and a good number of passengers. Auckland, June 13. The assay value of the bullion recovered from 493 tons crushed and treated by the New Zealand Crown Mines Company, Ltd., last month, was £2415. Arrangements are being made to '• try out " a whale Which floated across the Manukau Bar, and stranded at Huia. The whale measures 86ft in length. A sperm whale 70ft long has been stranded on Ocean Beach, Marsden Point, in good condition. The Gairloch and Mahinapua have not got out of the Manukau owing to bad weather. A resolution has been passed by the Auckland Women's Liberal League urging that the Contagious Diseases Act should be made applicable to men and women I alike, and should be rigorously enforced. Dunedin, June 13. A Chinaman named Lee Chuu was killed by a fall of earth near Roxburgh. Information has been received that the man* Campbell, who was supposed to be lost in snow betweea Martin's and the head of Lake Wakatipu, has safely reached Glenorchy.
