BOOTMAKER'S STRIKE IN SYDNEY. (Per Press Association.) Brisbane, June 12. A number of men who had been engaged in Sydney to fill the vacancies in boot factories havejoined the strikers, and the factories are almost idle. The strikers are still in a strong financial position. Sydney, June 12. The Dean Commission has finished taking evidence. The recommendations of the Banker's Conference are to be submitted to the other colonies with a view to united legislation being adopted. The Postal retrenchment scheme includes closing about forty post offices where the business is so small that they are kept open at a loss. Hobart, June 12. The barquentine Kathleen Hilda, bound from Kaipara to Melbourne, has arrived at Low Head, the crew being short of water and provisions. There was no sign of the Hauroto from the Bluff up till dusk. She has probably been detained by heavy weather. Melbourne, This Day. A fire at Liverpool destroyed Collingwood's wool scouring works, Damage ±7000. A meeting of depositors in the Colonial Bank of Australasia rejected the proposed re - arrangement in connection with deposits. In the Legislative Assembly tbe tariff proposals are being discussed. An amendment has been moved adding a provision to the schedule that the maximum ad valorem duties shall be twentyfive per cent. Adelaide, This Day. The Premier promised to submit to the House the treaty with New Zealand as soon as possible.
