PEMBERTON SCHOOL.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sir, — It does not take a very scrutinizing mind to discern who wrote your letter re Pemberton school in your issue of June the 7th. Certainly D. Ritzinan did not, although his name is affixed to the same. Why did not the compiler show his, or her, hand 1 It would have been more manly— or womanly, I should say. In reference to Mr Ruler, " the Czar of Russia/ this is intended for Mr Baker, the chairman of the Wanganui Education Board, and his preference for a committee of bachelors. That gentleman had nothing to do with the election of a school committee at Pemberton, which was elected according to law, and contains but two bachelors — viz , Mr T. D. Wood and Mr A. Grant; the other members being Messrs 0. L. Pemberton (chairman), J . Stent, J. D. McGregor, J. J. Bryce, and G. L. Lay. Mr Baker did walk a great portion of the way to Rangiwahia and back, suf- ' ficient to satisfy himself as to the state of the road, which, presumably, was all he required, as no amount of talking or interviewing could convince any ordinary being that the road was too bad or impassible for foot traffic. I should imagine the gentleman in question was interviewed sufficiently the previous evening — enough to disgust, at any rate, any gentleman who would be deputed upon on any business, let alone school affairs. Even our road engineer, I venture to think, would not have as warm a reception ; but your Pemberton correspondent on school affairs must be one-sided, or not at all. You, sir, certainly must try and do something definite to alleviate the grieved person's mind to save yourself from further petty bickerings. I am, &c, One avho is not a Bachelor.
