Tenders are invited by the secretary of the Apiti Dairy Factory Company for the erection of buildings for the compauy. Plans and Specifications at Stak office. The concert at Birmingham last even- j ing was a great success, there being a very large audience. A full report, which is unavoidably held over, will appear in Monday's issue. Chief Justice Way, of South Australia, who is a Bible Christian, of which religion his father was a minister, will not attend a racecourse, even iv his offi cial capacity as Acting- Governor. To-morrow the preachers in the Primitive Methodist Church will be Mr J. Fow in the morning, and the Rev W. Lee, Weslcyan Minister, in the evening. \ Strangers arc invited and all scats are free. Say well, blacksmith, of Rangiwahia, was shoeing a horse a day or two ago he received a kick in the side injuring his ribs, but he is able to move about and we hope he will soon be n't to wcild the hammer again. At the Palmerston District Court yesterday, Edwin Browning, Campbclltown, farmer, came up for public examination. The debtor was examined at length as to the transfer of certain property to his wife, and the examination was declared closed. The Feildiug school has put up a record. The average attendance for the present week was over 800. This is the first time on record that the attendance has been JiOOfor a whole week at a time. The Pohaugina County Council invite tenders, to be sent to Councillor Yicary, Apiti, on or before Monday, June 17th, for about one mile of drains alongside the Apiti main road. Messrs Bramwell Bros., of Feilding and Colyton, have just received a splendid consignment of fancy china, tea sets, dinner services, and glassware direct from the manufacturers in Englaud. As these really excellent goods arrived rather late in the season the importers decided to sell at very low prices to make room for new stock. Further particulars will be advertised on Monday. Considerable feeling has been aroused iv Cambridge in connection with the petition for closing the Masonic Hotel. The reasons cited in the petition for closing are that the applicant did not advertise for three consecutive days in a newspaper his intention to apply for a license, and that a notice was not affixed outside the door of the principal entrance. It appears that this objection, if sustained, will be fatal. We are informed by Messrs Goodbehere and Richmond, solicitors for the plaintiff in the case of W. F. Elkiugton versus the Phoenix Assurance Company, they have to-day received a wire from Wellington stating the Chief Justice this morning delivered judgment in the plaintiff's favor, holding that written notice of the cancellation of the policy was necessary. The claim was one for ii' Boo on an insurance policy over a building at WaitunaWest, destroyed by fire some time back. A conversazione will be held in the Assembly Rooms on Monday evening in connection with the Presbyterian con--1 gregation. Among the musical items to be rendered will be several double quartettes by members of the Presbyterian choir assisted by friends. The programme is a most varied and high class one, and there is every promise that the enter- ; tainment will be a great success. Par- • ticnlar attention is directed to the fact that the hour has been changed from 7 to 7.30. Previous to adjourning the Court last evening the S.M., Mr Stanford, referred i to the delay in court business caused by adjournments and said it was just as annoying to liim as anyone, but up to the present he could not avoid it as the sitting of the Foxton court was on the day before Feilding, and unless work there completed early in the day the train arrangements did not permit of his getting to Feilding before midday. He would be able to attend at the Feilding court at its next sitting (on June 21st) at 9 a.m., but he expected to be delayed again at the sitting following. After that he hoped to be able to make better arrangements so that the Foxton sitting would not come the day before Feiiding.
