(Per Press Association.) Christchukch, June 7. At a meeting of delegates from various political and labor societies it was decided to form an anti-Chinese league, and to raise a poll tax on the Chinese to at least £100, and enforce the inspection of the premises occupied by Chinese and other Asiatics, also prohibiting naturalisa* tion of any Chinese or other Asiatics. The enquiry with reference to the management of the Christchurch hospital was commenced today before Dr Giles, commissioner. About fifty people were present and several counsei were engaged on behalf of individuals. After preliminaries were arranged the enquiry was adjourned till Monday. Wellington, June 7. James Banbury, an employee of T. Canning, Lower Hubfc, committed suicide by hanging himself. At the inquest no cause could be assigned, and the jury returned a verdict that the act was committed while temporarily insane. In the case of Walter Ugden, charged with attempt to defraud by means of a fictitious telegram, the jury brought in a verdict of not guilty. John P. Donovan, charged with theft of £15, was found guilty and remanded for sentence. The last case on the calendar, the charge of murder against Nicholson, will be taken on Monday. This Day. A stock man named Jno. JLawrance Young, aged 46, employed by Freeman R. Jackson and Co. died suddenly of heart disease. Gisborxe, June 5. A laborer named Henry Ex worthy has been missing for a fortnight. He is supposed to have been drowned while crossing the river on the banks of which his horse saddled was found. William Davey was committed for trial on a charge of larceny as bailee of a suit of clothes, and forger} 1 -.
