There will he a meeting of the Feilding Cycling Club in the club room at « p.m. to-morrow night. Mr F. Barker has boon appointed ranger and poundkeeper for the Borough of Feilding. The Feilding Bowling Club will meet in Mr Giescn's office on Wednesday evening next at B'o'clock. Entries for Messrs Abraham and Williams sale at Palmcrstou on the oOth inst are now advertised. Mr McEwan, the Government Dairy Expert, will address a meeting at Apiti on Wednesday evening. The annual meeting of the Feilding Debating Society will be held in Mr Bray's office this evening at 8 o'clock. The English mails via Frisco, which left Auckland by the Mariposa on April 20th, arrived in London on Friday last. There will be Mass in Ilalcombe on Sunday next at S a.m., and in Feilding at 11 a.m. Evening Devotions in Feilding at o p.m. The train returning to Palmerstou from the Wanganui races on Friday night ran over a horse, winch had strayed on the line near Bunuythorpe. Another daily paper is to be started in Wellington. The capital required will be not less than i.100,000 paid up to make it gee. Mr 11. Jolly, Commission agent, Feilding, lias been appointed agent for Mr A. Martin, photographer, Wauganui. Sec advertisement. The reason of the opposition of the churches to bimetallism is the continued and objectionable presence of the much dispiscd but useful threepenny bits in the collections. To-day Messrs Guy and Haggitt, solicitors, ' Palmerston " North, advertise they have money to lend in various sum from 1100 to .i'sooo. The interest on sums over 11000 is 5\ per centum. A meeting of the members of the Gladstone Small Farm Association will be held in the Temperance Hall on Wednesday next at 7.30. p.m. Business is of importance and a full attendance is requested. At the conclusion of the meeting of the Temperance Convension at Palmerston on Friday, a special vote of thanks was passed, amidst cheers to Mr Fred Pirani, M.H.R., for the manner iv which he has carried out his platform pledges in Parliament. The Bulletin says : — Maoriland proves the reality of its surplus by transferring L150,0000f visible cash to the Public Works Fund. It is a long time since any Australian surplus was sufficiently visible to be transferred anywhere, except by an inky process in a ledger. The mauy friends of the Rev W. H. Judkins will be pleased to hear of his safe arrival in the colony. The rev. gentleman reached Auckland by the Rotomanana this morning, and expects to occupy the pulpit of the Wesleyan Church, Feilding, on Sunday evening next. Scientific Temperance is to be taught in the state schools of Tasmania. This is intended to be a blow at those who get intoxicated on chemically made beer. Still, it is a new thing to know that people in the beautiful " apple land " can get " scientifically drunk — or else what is the use of making them scientifically sober '? We regret to have to announce the death of Francis Peter, fourth son of Mr Peter London, ol Makino, which took place this morning. The lad was sixteen and a half years of age and succumbed to an attack of inflammation of the lungs after five weeks illness. The funeral will take place on Wednesday afternoon. A further rise of 10s a ton was made in Hour on Thursday (says the Auckland HeralcU affecting Auckland and Southern flour. This makes a rise of j-l within a fortnight, and should there be a further advance it -will affect the price of the 21b loaf, as the bakers will raise the price a halfpenny per loaf. Bran and sharps have also been advanced 5s per ton. A man named William Council was found drowned in the Orona river near the Awahuri bridge this morning. He resided on the Palmerston side of the river and was lost seen by his mates at 11 o'clock on Saturday night going towards the river. His body was found about a quarter of a mile below the bridge. He was a man about 60 years of age and we understand he was all through the Maori war including the great siege of Orakaupa. A meeting of those interested in the formation of a Golf Club was held at the Feilding Hotel on Saturday evening, when it was decided to instruct Mr H Worsfold to give an estimate of cost of preparing the ground, which will be that portion of Mr F. Y. Lethbridge's property which was formerly used as a racecourse. Another meeting will be held on Saturday evening next to consider the report. A meeting of the Apiti Wesleyan Church Trustees, was held in the church on Wednesday May 15th, to receive tho balance-sheet as audited by Messrs B. A. Miller and C. S. Potts ; also to ascertain what sum had been obtained from the collections on the Anniversary Services, and the tea, concert etc. The total receipts were £13 7s lid, and ex penditure £13 14s, leaving a debit balance of 7s Id. This leaves the church j practically free of debt with the exception of the advance received from the Loan fund. Votes of thanks were passed to the auditors and to Mr Guy.
