Aquatic Matters.
(Per Press Association). Brisbane, This Day. Speaking at a picnic in honor of the eight-oared crews from Victoria and Now South Wales, the Hon. Thos. J. Byrnes, Attorney-General, referring to the action of Rowing Associations in Sydney ordering tbe New South Wales crew to withdraw from the contest because one of the Victorian crew was alleged to have raced for cash in a bicycle race, said if the crew had withdrawn it would have been the deathblow to international contests. A professional was a man who applied bis skill for professional purposes, and all the colonies ought to a°ree as to the definition of an amateur, which should cover the whole of Australia. Mr Guist, of New South Wales, said the Victorian crew had been formed lon<* before the New South Wales crew left° Sydney, and if the Rowing Association had wanted to take exception it should have done so before the Victorian crew left Melbourne. Mr Upward, of Victoria, endorsed the views of Mr Guist. ___________
