SIR HENRY PARKES TO BE ASKED TO RESIGN. (Per Press Association.) Sydney, May 20. It is stated that the Colonial Treasurer allowed his Tariff schedule to be altered in Committee, and that the retention or reduction of duty may be moved, but not its increase. It is probable, therefore, as finally passed, it will contain more concessions regarding protection than at present. At a meeting of Sir Henry Parkes' constituents it was resolved to ask him to resign on the ground that he had betrayed the electors. A public meeting is being called to consider the question. This Day. Sir Henry Parkes is not confident he will be successful in ousting the Government at the present time, but predicts the downfall of Mr Reid within six months. If the latter obtained a dissolution, half of the present Ministry, including MiReid, would lose their seats.
