Temperance Convention.
Tiie Temperance Convention to be held at Palmerston on Friday and Saturday of this week promises to be one of the most successful gatherings of this sort yet be!d in the colony. There will be about 100 delegates, representing almost every Temper ance Society in the Wellington, Hawke's Bay and Taranaki provincial districts. The decisions of such a convention must have great influence on Parliament and on the colony. Palmorston has the credit of having led the way in establishing these meetings. The Convention of last year was the first held in the colony. During the evening period similar gatherings have been held at Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill, and other centres with great success. Another is to be at Wellington as soon as the session begins. — Standard.
