Bishop Salisbury on Religion in New Zealand.
(Per Press Association.) London, May 15. Bishop Salisbury, speaking at the convocation at Canterbury, said tbe general power of religion in the colonies was much less than in England. It was painful to see tbe commercial spirit of the clergy owing to the poverty of the churches. They competed with each other like hotels. He attributed this to the disestablishment, and tbe reunion of the Church and State was the only thing that could prevent it.
